Client Profile: David Withers
David competes in historic group S racing with his beautiful Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera. In this category the cars must compete with very few modifications from their original specification. They must also use road spec. tyres, which can quickly "go off" if the damping is not ideal. In order to optimise the car's performance within such tight constraints, Envirage did a complete suspension kinematic analysis. This allowed Envirage to determine the dynamic variation of roll stiffness due to the difference in roll-centre migration of the front and rear suspension, a typical problem in early model 911s due to the significantly different front and rear suspension kinematics. This then allowed Envirage to find a combination of front and rear spring and damping rates to counter-act the dynamic variation in lateral load transfer distribution, whilst also allowing Envirage to determine the necessary damper rates to avoid excessive temperatures in the tyres.
Envirage has also consulted in the general preparation and running of the David's car. David has also taken advantage of the Envirage driver coaching suite of tools in preparation for Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca.
